Delicious Banana Chocolate Chip Bread Recipe

I’ve made this banana chocolate chip bread recipe over and over again for the last 8 years.

It’s the best way to use overripe bananas and the bread is a wonderful sweet treat for those cheat days.

Ingredients

The star of this banana chocolate chip bread recipe is, of course, bananas – the riper, the better.

Overripe bananas are sweeter and tastier so if you need to leave the bananas to develop those brown spots, please do.

It’s worth it.

The best supporting actress goes to vanilla extract. I know what you’re thinking – what’s so special about vanilla extract? Well, I get mine from Grenada; it’s not called the ‘spice isle of the Caribbean’ for nothing.

The extract isn’t like what I normally use; it doesn’t taste fake or artificial. It has better flavor.

All the other ingredients are what you would normally use in a typical banana bread recipe. Here’s a look at what I use:

Ingredients for banana chocolate chip bread

Making this Banana Chocolate Chip Bread Recipe

You won’t need a cake mixer for this recipe, it is not intensive, you can do everything by hand.

First things first, wash the bananas, peel and mash them with the back of a fork or potato masher.

Mashed bananas

Mix in melted butter and vanilla essence; then your eggs.

Add brown sugar and incorporate completely into the wet ingredients.

Next, add in your flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and cinnamon powder. Mix thoroughly.

Look at that chocolatey goodness.

Of course, it’s not chocolatey enough… add in those chocolate chips. Combine.

Add to a loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 – 50 minutes. I usually use two glass loaf dishes for this recipe so I leave the pan in for the full 50 minutes. If you use metal pans, you can take the bread out after 40 to 45 minutes.

Also, if you want a drier bread, leave the loaf pan in the oven after you turn it off for about 15 minutes.

Serve a warm slice by itself or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream… or chocolate. No one will complain about too much chocolate! At least not in my home haha!

Pin this recipe for later.

  1. The best thing about this bread recipe is, It has NO YEAST. Stores at our place are running out of yeast. can you believe it? love this totally.5 stars

    1. Would you believe my mother-in-law stocked up on yeast really early on? She’s a smart cookie! But, why make bread when we can make roti? Haha! Be safe!

  2. This looks so good! I’ve been seeing so many regular banana bread recipes recently it’s nice to see another one for a change. I’m not a huge fan of bananas so I haven’t been jumping on the banana bread bandwagon lately but I think a chocolate one might be enough to convince me to try one out x
