DIY classroom ceiling decor
Using regular paper
There are so many ways you can decorate the class with paper. From origami shapes to adorable cutouts, you can hang paper crafts on the ceiling or string them together to create a beautiful garland.
You can even get the kids involved and create it as a fun activity.
With this origami paper and this video, you can create beautiful paper snowflakes in class. Glue them onto strings and hang them from the ceiling. Or thread them together to make a wonderful snowflake banner.
Or crepe paper
If you want to make your own simple ceiling decor, get some crepe paper streamers. Stick them onto the ceiling and then twirl for simple and fun decorations.
Here’s the idea in action:
You can also do the classic chain streamers. I loved making these as a kid!
These bring back so many memories! You can pick up origami paper and great colorful crepe paper on Amazon.
Classroom ceiling decorations
For more ready-made options, here are some wonderful ideas.
Classic school banners
What says school more than apples and pencils? These sturdy paper decorations are pretty big (about 6-inches) so they are definitely noticeable in the classroom. And, they are pre-strung on 9-foot strings, so you can hang them on the ceiling with no problem!
You can even attach the 2 sets of strings together and have a fun decoration running along the diagonal of the classroom.
Star banners
Make the classroom a star-studded affair with these garland banners! They are great for decorating around the holidays, graduation, and birthdays.
This set comes as 10 garlands that measure about 130 feet in length, so they can cover a lot of the ceiling in class.
Colorful pennant banners
Bring color into the classroom with these beautiful colorful pennant banners. There are so many color combos you can get too.
This rainbow set comes as 6 banners that measure about 8 feet in length. It’s perfect as back to school decor.
Swirl decorations
Here is a simple classroom decoration idea: swirl foil streamers! You can curl ribbons you already have and attach them to the ceiling with tape or tacks. Or get this set of 28 colorful swirls that are about 2 feet when hung.
Hanging Chinese Lanterns
For bigger, bolder, and more whimsical ceiling decor, how about getting Chinese lanterns. They are three-dimensional, super light and are such fun. They would be best for welcome back to school decorations but could also be used throughout the year in class.
I really like this set of colorful lanterns that come in different sizes.
Cloud decor
Here’s another 3D decoration idea that would excite younger students – hanging clouds. These can be DIYed with paper, felt, stuffed fabric or cotton balls.
You can get really creative here and even have the kids help make the ceiling decorations. Or you can get this simple 10 piece set.
Hanging crayons
These hanging crayons would also delight the younger kids too. They come in vibrant colors and are about a foot in length so they’re not too overpowering in the classroom setting.
Paper flowers
For the older kids, they would definitely appreciate these large paper flowers on the ceiling. They come in 4 different sizes, toned down colors, and can be attached to the ceiling with a magnet or string.
Did I mention they are teacher created?
Fake vines
Here’s another decor idea for the older kids: fake ivy vines. They bring in some lovely green colors into the classroom and can make the space feel more relaxed.
With this set, you get 14 vines that measure under 80 inches in length. Hang them from the ceiling, around the door, and around the front whiteboard.
Butterfly fun
Bring in whimsy into the classroom with these colorful and adorable 3D butterflies. These are perfect especially if most of the students are girls. If you have a mix of students, then get these blue butterflies too! They are so cute.
