How to Make Passion Fruit Juice: It’s Simple!

Passion fruit juice is exotic, tropical and really easy to make.

The juice has an orange-mango taste but it is tart and sour! So you’ll need lots of sweetener to enjoy the drink.

But that unique taste is worth it!

Passion fruits

There are many varieties of passion fruit.

The differences are based on the outer skin of the fruit – all varieties taste pretty similar.

Here in the Caribbean, we have the yellow-skinned variety.

I picked up seven small passion fruits from the farmers’ market for $1. Yep, a dollar! It’s the same market I got the $7 soursop, which I used to make my soursop juice.

Passion Fruits

Juice isn’t the only thing you can make with passion fruits.

There’s a wonderful Italian restaurant in Tobago that uses the fruit to make passion fruit cheesecake.

Oh… my… god…

It is the best cheesecake I have ever had in my life! It was so good!

You can also make passion fruit syrup too for martinis, cocktails and other exotic drinks.

For now, let’s stick to making this simple, delicious passion fruit juice.

How to Make Passion Fruit Juice

1. Leave the fruits to ‘wrinkle’

You will want to use ripe passion fruits for this recipe. So leave the fruits for a couple days to wrinkle.

Why?

Because the flavor becomes much more intense. You’ll see the color differences in the pulp too. The wrinkled fruits have a slightly orange hue.

2. Cut the fruits and remove the seeds

While wrinkling is normal, your fruits should not have large soft spots. These spots may mean the pulp is moldy. So don’t leave your fruits too long to wrinkle.

Two to three days are perfectly fine (assuming they were smooth when you bought them!).

When they’re ready, insert your knife midway on the fruit and cut in half. The skin is soft enough to tear too.

With the fruit cut, smell the pulp. It’s good if it has that characteristic a floral scent. Scoop the pulp and seeds out with a spoon.

If the pulp smells off-putting, chuck the fruit in the compost.

Skip this step and order passion fruit pulp from Amazon.

3. Blend and strain

Add the pulp to your blender and pulse for 10 to 15 seconds. That should break up the pulp and seeds.

Double strain everything after.

You may get tiny bits of the seeds in your juice even after straining. That’s fine. The seeds are safe to eat. But you can always double strain using a muslin cloth.

4. Dilute and sweeten

Sweeten with your favorite sweeteners – I like using brown sugar. And dilute with cold water to your desired taste.

For 7 passion fruits, I usually use 7 tablespoons of sugar and about 5 cups of water.

If you like your juice more intense, add less water.

Serve cold.

Passion fruit juice is great as a stand-alone juice or you can mix in berries or pineapples.

Spike the juice for exotic cocktails too.

    1. I am in Costa Rica and I have Passion Fruit Vines. I LOVE the juice for drinks I might try a cheesecake one of these days. If you cut the fruit in half putting the contents in a blender, you DO NOT want to break the seeds up! I will turn my blender on to the LOWEST setting and let it blend for 2 or 3 minutes sometimes more, then I strain it one time is all it takes and the seeds remain whole! No grit in your drink… If I get more than I can use at one time I will put it in ice cube trays for later when I do not have any fresh fruit.4 stars
